本学が交流協定を締結している米国カリフォルニア州のモントレー国際大学学長及びロシア海洋国立大学学長からメッセージをいただきましたので、花壇前に英文の銘板を設置し、開園の集いにおいて披露しました。 
モントレー国際大学からいただいたメッセージ
On behalf of Monterey Institute of International Studies, I express my deepest sympathies for the family and friends of Ms. Miyako Hiraoka, who left them much too early.
May the flowers that will bloom in this garden every year keep her dreams alive for generations of students who will come and study at the University of Shimane and dedicate themselves to the promotion of international understanding and friendship, as surely Miyako-san would have done.

Please accept our deepest condolences on the untimely death of Ms Hiraoka Miyako.
For the Maritime
State University’s professors, staff and students it was so desperately sad to know that such a short life closed.
The girl student of yours could have had the whole life ahead, she could have done a lot of good, she could have experienced and learnt much, and we know that Ms Hiraoka Miyako actually dreamt of studying the Russian language and culture.
Please also convey our heartfelt sympathy to Ms Hiraoka Miyako parents, although it is understood that there’s little that could soothe their grief.
